Ode to Broadie

"A Man's Family's Best Friend"

Lonnie and I got Broadie right after I graduated and moved to College Station.  We had just gotten engaged and were living in our first apartment.  We decided we needed a dog :)  We got her from a breeder and I remember she was the runt of the litter.  She was sick and hid under the couch when we picked her out and she was a skinny minny but so darn cute.

A year after we had Broadie we decided we needed another dog???  We went to a different breeder and got Brynn.  They could not be more opposite(just like kids I guess).  Brynn was the brute of the litter and totally spoiled- drinking milk out of her dish when we picked her out.  Broadie did not take too kindly to us bringing home a friend.  She pooped on our guest bed, peed and pooped on our recliner and definitely let us know she preferred being an only child.

Brynn was crazy from the get go and Broadie did what she could to tolerate her.

The moment we had kids, Broadie loved every minute of it.  Often times cuddling and being the protector not only of Brynn but the kids as well.

Broadie and Case

It is funny to me how dogs turn grey as they get older too.

Best Friends

These last few were all taken a few weeks prior to us saying goodbye to our sweet Broadie.  She had developed a degenerative disc problem in her back and could no longer feel her legs dragging behind her.  We took her in and after getting some medication things got worse and it was time for us to make a decision.  I can honestly say this was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do.  I know it was the right decision but such a sad time for our family.

Broadie's nickname was seat stealer.  If you ever got out of your spot whether in bed or on the couch when you returned she would be in your place.  I guess her way of keeping it warm :)  We also called her shadow for a while because she never wanted you out of her sight.

There are so many things I miss about Broadie and so many wonderful family memories we shared with her.  Thank you Broadie for twelve amazing years!
